about

The debut album from this young and exiting quartet. All pieces, besides an arrangement of the Wayne Shorter classic “Witch hunt” are compositions by the bandleader. They fall under the category of modern melodic jazz. Melody is always a central element in his compositions that often also have a certain pop-affinity, but never lack the space for improvisation.

„All of the compositions by the bandleader are full of lyrical moments and always develop in exiting directions whilst unravelling. Overall the Jan Schröder Quartet achieved to make a multi-layered record, that is especially convincing through its sound design and the song-dramaturgies.“ (Christoph Giese / JazzThing)

"The album is a hit for jazz guitar enthusiasts with a certain tendency of keeping tradition and the present together without sprains or breaks. Jan can do that with a full and round sound and the eternal swing, even in the loneliest and quietest note. If this is really his debut - for the top quartet, it certainly is one - then they passed with the highest grade and nothing less. (Alexander Schmitz / Jazz Podium)

about

Jan Schroeder Quartet Utrecht

Modern melodic jazz, ‘full of lyrical moments’ ‘multilayered’, ‘a direct hit’, ‘a top quartet’ (JazzThing / JazzPodium). The clean warm jazzguitar sound is often treated with effects and the piano is often replaced by the Hammond or Rhodes.
